Psych! The Psychology of Drinking

Drinking is a science, and many students know about physiology of drinking. But do you know anything about the psychology of drinking? This presentation covers topics like alcohol expectancies and tolerance, and is best for groups who have already received some basic alcohol education and would like more in-depth content.

60 – 75 minutes

Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP)

Developed by researchers at the University of Washington, Alcohol Skills Training Program, or ASTP, is a risk reduction program that aims to educate students about alcohol use, while increasing their interest in critically examining their drinking patterns. ASTP focuses on skill building and risk reduction rather than complete abstinence from alcohol, recognizing that some college students choose to drink, and that any steps towards risk reduction is a positive step. The goal of ASTP is to teach students to recognize high-risk situations in order to minimize those potential risks through a combination of preventative action, reduced consumption, and abstinence.
